02 visions of Donostia

URUMEA  by Ainara Eretxun, Caracas 1955

The River and its surroundings through the Seasons

Opening: Friday, March 24th, 2017 at 8:00pm

The URUMEA river is the subject of many years of study by the artist since 2000.

The works are the result of a slow methodic investigation of the river´s light during specific times of day and are sensitive to all climatic and manmade changes over the years.  Human interventions including both demolition, newly constructed buildings along with the felling of trees,  mark the constant changes to the Urumea’s landscape recorded over the years through Ainara Eretxun’s artistry.

Recently celebrating its 20th anniversary and emerging from the year- long celebration of San Sebastian as European Capital of Culture 2016, arteko Galeria  is dedicating 2017 to the City of Donostia with the objective getting to know the City through its culture, contemporary art and artists. This homage to San Sebastian through contemporary art with different artistic interpretations will continue to evolve throughout the year. This exhibition continues arteko gallery’s tradition since its beginnings in 1996 of organizing exhibitions with a central theme of the City: Working over the past 20 years to bring works that speak about Donostia and its cultural heritage

Ainara Erentxun Menoio was born in Caracas in 1955 and she studied architecture. Inspired by her father the painter, Eloy Erentxun Onzalo , he introduced her to the concept of artist inspiration. Since those early years, the artist has continued her profound exploration of oil painting through self¬learning and having the opportunity to work in various painting workshops taught by masters of realism: Juan José Aquerreta, Antonio López García, Jose María Mezquita y María Moreno
